I have been a practising lawyer in New Brunswick since 1985, starting out as an associate in a Saint John law firm, followed by a long period working for a professional association, with exposure to a wide variety of legal issues.

In 2014, I decided to return to my roots in the Wills and Estates field, practising from my home and providing clients with a convenient accessible service in their home. I love working with people in all kinds of life situations to plan both for the unthinkable and the inevitable.

Personally, I have experienced the demands of a busy family household, aging parents and family members with physical and neurological challenges and mental illness and suicide. Planning for such life events is difficult; your plan may never be perfect; but those you care for and who care for you need the best plan you can make today.

In my life, I try to live a healthy, purposeful life, by cooking healthy food for my family, walking our dog, doing Pilates daily, skating, sailing our Freedom 25 sailboat “Sagaz” (mostly by serving refreshments and reading on the bow), and skiing with family and friends at Poley Mountain.

I have been married to a wonderful man for over 25 years and we have two great young adults that are well on their way to leaving the nest.

My guilty pleasure is reading; mostly multi-genres in the range of fantasy, science fiction, horror, historical, steam-punk and romance, mainly by female authors, namely Diana Gabaldon, Elizabeth Moon, Patricia Briggs, Anne Bishop, Kelley Armstrong, Tanya Huff, Sharon Shinn and Laurell K. Hamilton (whose animator, Anita Blake, handily raises the dead to interpret or explain their Wills or other estate issues for the benefit of the legal system).

Some of my other favourites:

TV series: Outlander, NCIS and Criminal Minds, along with tennis and alpine skiing.

Music: I listen to classical music when I am drafting wills and power of attorney but I prefer to drive to k.d.lang especially “Hallelujah” (although I also love the Jeff Beck version) and Turn the Page, by Bob Seger (although the Metallica version is fine too).

My favourite quote is from Mark Twain, “The secret of getting ahead is getting started.”

Another great piece of advice from Jeff Haden I try to implement daily in my life is: “Always turn ideas into actions. The word "idea" should be a verb, not a noun, because no idea is real until you turn that inspiration into action. Ideas without action aren't ideas; they're regrets.”

My legal assistant and Will Witness Extraordinaire is my son, Alec, currently a St. Thomas University student, whose factual knowledge in many areas of music, history, science, sailing and modern culture far exceeds my own.
